Geo phys. used to identify the site of wheel pit

Each incline plane on the canal system was operated by a endless chain driven by a water driven wheel pit. When the aqueduct became the Bude Water supply channel and the filtration plant was created at the top of Vealand incline plane, the wheel pit was destroyed and filled in. We have never been sure of it’s exact location. With the help of a friend who has goephysical surveying equipment, we hope that we have now identified the tops of the walls. Sometime before long, we will try to dig down to prove this, and subject to what we find, consider how we best use them to give a better understanding of our incline plane.

We did also try to locate any remains of the boat bays at the base of the incline but were unable to find any evidence.
